‘place as muse’
a selection of poems, written about salt spring island,
a recent watercolour inspired by echo valley,
and a seat, by a window, to read
i wanted you to have a place to leisure, and to hold the poems in your hands.
i am glad there is a window nearby, so you can look out and perhaps notice
the trees, and clouds, the sunset, or a star.
these poems are written in a short form, that is influenced by contemporary, and imagist poetry,
as well as including some of the principles of haiku.
they are not written in 5.7.5, but in vers libre.
they are based in nature, and often include a hint towards the season of their composition.
i have tried to make them as succinct as possible.
i wanted to acknowledge all the roads, trails, views, and businesses that inspired this set of writing,
so i have included a place name with each of the poems.
one of the things that the practice of writing has taught me, is that poetry is all around us,
if we take some time each day, to slow down, and open up.
this box holds some of the treasures i have found, when i had the chance to do just that.
i hope you find one or two, that glimmer for you.
